The review and emergence of other methodologies for the study of mobility from experience (Solsona-Cisternas, 2021; Jirón and Imilan, 2019) has gained greater importance in scientific production in recent years, with the main intention of challenging traditional approaches to territory and the processes that occur within it (Cárdenas, 2005). This has allowed for approaches that portray experiences from the personal perspective of those who transit urban contexts. It has even fostered the recovery of tools and techniques that have been gaining ground in urban studies in recent years, such as cognitive maps (García and Colina, 2012). This article seeks to reflect on the mobile experiences of university students through their daily transits and movements, using cognitive maps as a tool to capture identifiers, emotions, and perceptions through material, symbolic, cultural, and/or relational aspects. As a complement to the technique, dialogues were established with each student for the description and interpretation of the maps. This is a qualitative methodology, where in addition to using cognitive maps as the main tool, a reflective and active observation process was also implemented. A total of 30 students participated; however, for the purposes of this communication, the analyses of 5 cases are presented. The study was conducted in the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara, Mexico, and the main findings reflect that the experiences are crossed by material and intangible elements that are found in their transits, which must be understood through a dialogical relationship with the territories traveled, where the production of the experience is not only mediated by perception; it is also determined by the material conditions of the spaces.
