Abstract

Rewriting on the Body: Traces of Activism Stories, AIDS and its Politics in Buenos Aires and Mexico City, authored by Leonardo Olivos Santoyo and published in 2025 by the National Autonomous University of Mexico, offers a critical look at the conceptual and practical forms of human sexuality from the perspective of politicization and the impositional character (the State, society, among others), resistance (homosexuality, gayness, marginalization), or reconfiguration of the subject (the emerging non-heterosexual subject, builder of a different ontology). By explicitly stating this, the importance of this writing is recognized in accurately situating the academic-scientific and social action debate that, from feminism and sociopolitical belonging to Latin America, has been sustained in the last third of the last century and the decades we have of the current one, associated with the configuration of subjects of sexuality against the grain of a heterosexual determination, self-referenced in its hegemonic quality, usually dictated from the global north and that would place them, according to María Livia Alga (2018), as eccentric subjects.
